Section of my 2020 word poem "RED HEELS" with pictures and music.

This is a journey of my experience during 2020 Pandemic. As a grassroots community activist I have always fought for the rights of Black local people in my community. When the pandemic was in its beginning stages me and a couple or other activist decided to set up a food bank and pop-up kitchen to help the isolated and vulnerable people that we already knew and those that were referred to us through word of mouth and our flyers.
It was very challenging times and there was so much uncertainty about what was 'OUT THERE'. I felt so overwhelmed initially and scared for my life, but knew that I was protected by my ANCESTORS, who walk with me every day.
After a long harrowing day I would come home and dress up in my favourite 16 year old Red HEELED shoes and pretend to be FREE.
I have been trapped since birth in a parallel world with my other half. Silenced many times, when I have wanted to speak out.

Bevali Mckenzie - Behind the Mask of last year was YOU. Now it is all about how we handle the changing world

Selfie Queen
Selfie queens
Selfie kings
Arms stretched out and posed on me
There’s no other way to be…….
Its all about me.
Sometimes I pout to show I’m sultry
Sometimes I growl to show I’m edgy
But to be quite honest I know I’m addicted
I know that I have been afflicted
I take roughly 60 pictures a day
I don’t care what anyone has to say
I’m a selfie queen
So much to bring
Arms stretched out and posed on me
There’s no other way to be
Its all about me

There’s no other way to be…….
Its all about me.
You don’t know how hard it is
To look so good it is
Impossible to escape a mirror
Look at me I’m no beginner

There’s no other way to be…….
Its all about me.
I pose from the left cause that’s the side
That I decide looks super fly
I don’t need any changing
But would love to get more ratings
To know how great I’m representing
ME…. Its all about ME

THE EVERYBODY MOTHER
AFRICAN STORY TELLING

Peepar was a lanky African woman who walked with a heavy set of dancing feet. Well, that's what everybody would say!. She was beautiful.
She was a mother, a sister, an aunt, a lover and a child. Peepar must have held many more titles. Her pleasure in life was to raise her children properly in the village that she lived in.
In fact, her greatest desire was to educate her children so that they could make a better life for themselves. CONT
